Lutron PD-6WCL-LA Smart Dimmer Switch: Automatically adjusts lights with seasons
Ever wished you could just set the mood with a flick of a switch? Well, the Lutron Caseta dimmer is here to make that dream a reality. Whether you're diving into a good book, binge-watching your favorite show, hosting friends, or just enjoying a quiet dinner, this little gadget lets you dial in the perfect lighting every time. And hey, if you're feeling lazy (no judgment here), the Pico remote control (sold separately) means you can adjust the lights without even getting up. It's compatible with a wide range of bulbs—up to 600-Watt for incandescent or halogen, and 150-Watt for dimmable LED or CFL. Just a heads-up, you'll need to grab the coordinating wall plate and Pico separately.
But wait, there's more (because of course there is):
- It's smart enough to tweak your lighting as the seasons change—because who has time to do that manually?
- Plays nice with Alexa, Apple Home, and Google Assistant, so you can boss it around with your voice if that's your thing.
- Control it from your phone, by shouting at it, or the old-fashioned way—by pressing the wall switch.
- Can handle a bunch of bulbs at once, making it the multitasker of dimmers.
- And here's the kicker: no neutral wire needed. Installation just got a whole lot easier.
- Connects with leading smart home devices
- Control via app, voice, or wall
- Works with many bulbs at once
- No neutral wire required
- Automatically adjusts lights with seasons

so, why did i get this thing? well, as a builder, i'm always looking for ways to make my home smarter without breaking the bank, and this seemed like a good fit. but honestly, at first, i was disappointed because i thought it would come with everything, and it didn't. after using it for a couple of weeks, though, it grew on me. i can dim the lights for my concerts at home or when the grandkids are over, and it's nice not having to get up to adjust things. it's not perfect—the voice control can be finicky—but for the price, it does what i need. would i recommend it? yeah, if you're okay with buying extras. it's made my life a bit easier, even with the hiccups.
- Pros: it was fairly easy to install since i didn't need that extra wire, which saved me a headache. i liked being able to change the light levels with my voice or from my phone, and it worked well with the bulbs i already had. setting the mood for different times, like when i'm listening to music or having family over, made things feel just right without much fuss.
- Cons: i didn't like that i had to buy the remote and wall plate separately—it felt like an extra cost i wasn't expecting. sometimes the voice commands didn't work perfectly, which was a bit frustrating. and for a beginner like me, the initial setup took a bit longer than i hoped, even though it wasn't too hard overall.
