Akai Professional 37-Key USB MIDI Keyboard Controller: MPC Drum Pad

37-Key USB MIDI Keyboard Controller — MIDI Control Devices, Akai Professional

Meet the 37-Key USB MIDI Keyboard Controller from Akai Professional—your new best friend whether you're laying down beats or performing live. It's not just about the keys; this bad boy packs MPC Drum Pads that feel just right for those late-night beat-making sessions. And with MIDI DAW Control, it slips into your digital audio workstation like it was made for it (because, well, it was). Fancy crafting some intricate patterns? The Step Sequencer has got your back. Plus, it throws in music production software to sweeten the deal, making it a no-brainer for rookies and pros. Oh, and it plays nice with PCs, so no worries about compatibility drama.

Here’s the lowdown on what makes it tick:

  • 37 keys that actually listen to how hard you hit them (velocity-sensitive, for the techies)
  • 8 pads that light up like a Christmas tree (MPC-style, because who doesn’t love a bit of flair?)
  • Controls for your DAW that’ll save you from mouse fatigue
  • A step sequencer because sometimes, you need to get your pattern game strong
  • And yes, software’s included—because starting from scratch is so last decade

Decision:

I got this for making music at home, and it's just what I needed for the price. Compared to my old setup, it's a big upgrade in terms of ease of use and features. The keys and pads work smoothly, and I love how it integrates with my DAW—no more clicking around with the mouse all the time. My kid enjoys messing around with it too, which is a plus. It's fairly reliable so far, and I'd recommend it to others looking for a simple controller. Not perfect, but for the cost, it does the job well :)

  • Pros: The keys respond well to how hard I press them, which is great for adding expression to my music. The pads light up and feel solid, perfect for making beats without needing extra gear. It connects easily to my computer and works with my music software right away, saving me a lot of setup time. The included software is a nice bonus for getting started quickly.
  • Cons: Only has a limited number of keys, which can feel cramped when playing more complex pieces. The build feels a bit light and plasticky, not as sturdy as I'd like for frequent use. The step sequencer is handy but takes some time to figure out, might not be intuitive for everyone.
