My first impression was that this robot dog kit from Petoi is a solid idea for STEM learning, but it has its ups and downs. I bought it to introduce my children to coding and robotics, and while they were excited to build it, the process took way longer than expected and required a lot of patience. The coding part was a mixed bag – the block-based system was okay for starters, but we struggled to get it to do more advanced tricks without diving into the harder languages, which felt a bit beyond our level. It's fun to see it move and respond to commands, but it's not as reliable or polished as I'd like for the price. I appreciate that it's open for modifications, but as a beginner, I wish there was more guidance. Overall, it's an educational tool that could be great with some improvements, but right now, it's just average in my book :)
- Pros: I liked that it was very engaging for my kids and me to build together, and the open nature meant we could learn a lot about robotics and coding in a hands-on way. The ability to control it from a phone was convenient, and adding sensors made it more interactive, which was fun for educational purposes.
- Cons: As it seemed to me, the assembly was quite tricky and time-consuming, which might be frustrating for beginners. The coding part felt overwhelming at first, even with the simpler options, and it didn't perform as smoothly as I hoped, with some glitches in movement. Also, it's not very durable for rough play with multiple kids around.
