Honor RKY-AN00 Play 40 Plus 5G: MediaTek Dimensity 700 octa core processor

Play 40 Plus 5G — Mobiles, Honor

Let's talk about the Honor Play 40 Plus 5G—because who doesn't love a phone that keeps up with their chaos? At its heart, there's a MediaTek Dimensity 700 octa core processor (that's 2 x A76 2.2GHz + 6 x A55 2.0GHz for the tech geeks), making sure everything from doomscrolling to gaming is smoother than your morning latte. And with 6GB+128GB large memory, it's like having a bottomless pocket for all your videos, photos, and those apps you swear you'll use one day.

Now, the screen—oh, the screen. A 6.74 inch 1600 x 720 TFT LCD IPS full screen that's basically a window to another world, all squeezed into something that still fits in your hand (mostly). And the cameras? Three of them. A 50MP main lens F1.8 + 2MP depth lens F2.4 rear cameras and a 5MP F2.2 front camera, because your selfies deserve to look as good as your main feed.

Speaking of cameras, here's what you can do with them:

  • Rear camera: From large aperture shots that make your food look gourmet to night scenes that actually look like night (not just a black rectangle), portrait modes that flatter, and even dual-view video for when you can't decide between filming your face or the chaos around you.
  • Front camera: It's all about the selfies, with modes like portrait, filters that don't make you look like an alien, and gesture photo because sometimes touching the screen is too much effort.

And the battery? A 6000mAh high capacity battery that laughs in the face of 'low battery anxiety'. It's the kind of phone that'll still be chugging along when you've forgotten what a charger looks like.

Decision:

I bought this as a gift for my husband, expecting a reliable phone that could handle his daily needs without breaking the bank. In reality, it's mostly met those expectations—the long battery life is a huge plus, and it performs well for everyday tasks like calls, messaging, and browsing. However, I was hoping for better camera quality, especially for family photos indoors or in the evening. The size is another downside; it's not the most comfortable to hold. Despite these flaws, it's a solid choice for the price, and he's been happy with it for the past couple of weeks. I'd recommend it with some reservations, as it does the job but isn't perfect. 😊

  • Pros: The battery life is impressive; it lasts all day and then some, which is perfect for my busy schedule with the kids and work. The screen is large and clear, making videos and photos look vibrant. I appreciate how smooth everything runs, from switching between apps to playing games, without any noticeable lag. The cameras take decent photos, especially in good lighting, and the selfie camera has some fun options that my teenagers love.
  • Cons: The screen resolution could be sharper; sometimes text and images look a bit fuzzy up close. The cameras struggle in low light, producing grainy photos that don't match my expectations. It's a bit too bulky for my liking, making it awkward to carry around in a pocket. From what I feel, the overall design feels a bit dated compared to other options out there.
