Philips Hue 589879 Indoor Smart LED Solo Lightstrip Base Kit: Control with Hue App
Looking to add some sparkle to your space? The Philips Hue Indoor Smart LED Solo Lightstrip is your go-to. It’s not just bright—it’s 1700 lumens of 'who turned on the sun?' brilliance, with colors that change faster than your mood on a Monday morning. And yeah, you can boss it around with the Hue app or just yell at Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple HomeKit to do it for you. Laziness wins again.
Where does it fit? Anywhere, really. Under the kitchen cabinets for that midnight snack ambiance, along hallways to avoid toe-stubbing disasters, or around your bedroom because why not? It’s flexible (unlike some of us after 30) and can be cut to size. Plus, that fancy silicone sleeve means the light’s smooth, not like some cheap, glare-y knockoff.
Installation? Stick it, plug it, done. No PhD required. Want to get fancy with automations and remote control? Grab a Hue Bridge (sold separately, because of course it is).
And about the colors—this isn’t your average RGB LED. It’s RGBWW, which means whites are actually white, not that weird blue-ish tint you get from the bargain bin. Colors pop, whites are pure, and your lighting game just leveled up.

I bought this a couple of months ago to jazz up my kitchen after my kids kept complaining about the dim lighting. As a pragmatist, I was drawn to the Philips Hue brand for its reputation, but I have to say, it's a mixed bag. The brightness is fantastic—it really illuminates the whole space and makes meal prep easier. I appreciate that the colors are rich and true to life, and setting it up was a breeze; I did it myself in under an hour. However, the cost is a sticking point. I had to shell out extra for that hub thingy just to get the full functionality, which annoys me to no end. It feels like they're nickel-and-diming you. Also, while it's supposed to be flexible, I struggled to get it to lay flat around the edges of my cabinets without some unsightly gaps. On the plus side, integrating it with my existing smart home setup was straightforward, and I enjoy being able to change the lighting with a simple voice command. But honestly, for the price, I expected a bit more polish. It's good, but not perfect—I'd recommend it if you're willing to invest, but be ready for those extra costs.
- Pros: The light is incredibly bright and makes my kitchen feel like daytime even at night, which is perfect for reading or cooking. I love how easy it was to set up—just stick it under the cabinets and plug it in, no fuss. The colors are vibrant and the whites look natural, not that odd blue shade I've seen in cheaper options. Being able to adjust it with my voice through my smart home system is a nice touch for when my hands are full.
- Cons: It's a bit too expensive for what it is, especially since you need to buy an extra hub separately to use all the smart features, which feels like a sneaky way to charge more. The strip isn't as flexible as I hoped and was tricky to bend around corners without it looking messy. Sometimes the app can be slow to respond, which is frustrating when I'm in a hurry.
