Australians are delighted Tony Abbott has been sacked (except Rupert Murdoch) – The Independent
And on Monday his two-year tenure came to an end when rival Malcolm Turnbull won a snap vote for the Liberal Party leadership following a sudden coup.
Aussies have since tweeted their delight at the news Mr Abbott had been given the boot en masse:
Goodbye Tony Abbott, probably one of Australia’s worst Prime Ministers! Will the new one be any better? Oz needs to stop switching PMs often

I have been ashamed to have Tony Abbott represent my country. His positions and expression have caused me excruciating embarrassment. #QandA

It’s hard to think of a PM who could be worse than Tony Abbott. I’ll miss the mad headlines.

.@TonyAbbottMHR Welcome to the annals of mediocrity. You leave nothing of worth to show for your time in office. Good riddance.

I’m under no illusion that a new PM will dramatically alter our close minded and outdated government, but still, glad to see #TonyAbbott go.

I hope Tony Abbott retains the leadership. He deserves to be voted out by the public next year.

Maybe Australia can catch up with the rest of the Western world now Tony Abbott is gone.

There was, however, one dissenting voice in the mix. Mr Abbott’s long-time ally Rupert Murdoch.
Sad to see such a decent man as Abbott toppled. Now Turnbull needs a November election before Labor sacks Shorten.
