Zendaya Coleman hopes that Giuliana Rancic will take what she’s learned from their spat to make Fashion Police more “positive.” While chatting with Us Weekly about hosting this Sunday’s Radio Disney Music Awards, the “Replay” singer responded to Rancic and the talk show’s return to E!, scheduled for this fall.
“I just hope they learn and grow from it and are able to make a positive change with their show,” the 18-year-old told Us when asked about the return of the controversial show, which launched an epic scandal. “Hopefully [they’re] able to take a more positive spin and we’re all able to learn from it at the same time.”
In case you’ve been MIA, Rancic was in hot water after she said during the show’s post-Oscar special that Zendaya “probably smelled” like patchouli oil and weed because of her dreadlocks.
Following her insensitive comment, Zendaya confronted the host via social media and Rancic issued numerous apologies. The seemingly racist comment sent the entire show — and Rancic’s fellow co-hosts — into a frenzy though.
Both Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Griffin (who replaced the late Joan Rivers) exited the show following the drama.
Fashion Police aside, the teen is looking forward to hosting Sunday’s awards show. “Honestly I just hope everyone has a great time,” the soon-to-be first-time host said. “I want everyone, even the people at home, to feel like they are part of the production. I want them to feel like they are on the stage, they are in there with us and really just be sucked up in the world and have a lot of fun. That’s all it’s about really.”
