Cecoiya Johnson joined us in the WLKY studio to tell us more about Poise Models and their upcoming ‘Fashion on Earth’ fashion show.

Johnson said the annual fashion show was originally created as a platform for local models, designers and stylist to display their talent, build rapport, and to gain exposure and experience in the modeling industry.

But she told us that over the years it has grown into a community centered event, providing positive experiences to urban Louisville.

“We believe in fostering personal confidence, self-image, personal growth, positive attitudes and healthy individuals in all of our participants,” Johnson said.

Johnson said giving back to the community is another aspect the production has focused on.

“This year we will be awarding a deserving child a scholarship to attend St. George’s Scholar Institutes’ summer reading enrichment program,” she said. “The scholarship will cover their participation and activity fee to attend the program.”

Johnson said Poise Models will also be partnering with local poet Lance Newman this year.

“He will be performing a piece that will hopefully shine a needed light on the violence in our community, and how we as a community can help in the efforts to decrease the violence,” said Johnson.

The Fashion on Earth show will take place Saturday.

It will begin at 5 p.m. at the Kentucky International Convention Center.
