5 fall fashion trends to get in on now – City Pages
Fall also signals change to come, and sometimes change is a good thing.
If you’re feeling the “back to school” vibes, you’re probably ready to do the grownup version of BTS shopping (unfortunately, mom’s not here to pay for everything you need to look cool around all your peers). If you haven’t taken advantage of pre-fall events, like Nordstrom’s anniversary sale, to get your hands on fall goodies before the season starts, that’s totally okay — these trends are just getting started.
The color you need: Red is the power color for Fall 2017, which is great because it looks awesome on basically everyone. Cool tones can do a retro cherry red or a moody claret, while warm tones look awesome in tomato red or an earthy, brown-based shade. Work it into your wardrobe with a cozy sweater, a skirt, or a red lip, and boss everyone else around with your newfound confidence. Seriously, though, nothing gives you a boost quite like red.
Western-influenced styles are all the rage for fall. Start scouring your fave vintage and thrift stores for things Roy Rogers and Dale Evans would’ve worn: Western shirts with pearl snap buttons, cow print, and cowgirl boots. (I’m a fan of red boots myself.) Corner Store Vintage, Tandem Vintage, and the cowboy store on Lake Street are a good place to start if you want to embrace your inner buckaroo; this cactus-print shift from Cliché would fit right in at the rodeo.
Victorian vibes! Get down with your romantic Gothic self in high-collared shirts and dresses, a trend that’s carrying on from this spring. We spotted a few lacy tops and dresses with slightly less severe collars by Who What Wear for Target on our last Target run if you prefer to dip your toes in slowly.
Finally! Glitter is having a serious moment in the spotlight this fall with sequins, sparkles, and flash, flash, flash. Just pretend you’re going to a disco party when you’re heading to work or out to dinner. Opt for glittery shoes (hello statement boots!) or mix in a little sparkle with your go-to casual pieces. Proper’s relaxed sequin tee would look cool with a pencil skirt, jogger pants, or thrown on with your favorite summer cutoffs.
Say goodbye to your summery blondes and say hello to richer, warmer colors: ruby red, copper, espresso, cinnamon brunette, and dark, captivating black. If you went platinum blonde and want to stay in your lane (like me), go steel grey for a little while via a toner. It doesn’t last forever so it’s not a serious color commitment. You know you’re itching for a change, so go for it and reap all the Instagram likes.
