Video surveillance of the mistaken arrest of former tennis star James Blake shows a plainclothes officer tackling him to the ground.
Blake, who is black, said he was slammed to the ground, handcuffed and detained for 15 minutes.
Officer James Frascatore’s arrest of Blake outside a midtown Manhattan hotel on Wednesday prompted apologies from New York City’s mayor and police commissioner.
Frascatore has a history of excessive force complaints, The New York Times reported.
His history of complaints, including at least three filed against him with the Civilian Complaint Review Board in 2013, revealed a pattern of residents claiming they were detained without explanation and mistreated despite complying, the outlet said.
Police misidentified Blake as a person wanted in connection with a fraud case.
