Huckabee to disclose 2016 presidential decision on May 5, 2015 – Observer Chronicle

Mike Huckabee invited folks to come to his hometown of Hope, Ark., on May 5, where he promises to say whether he’s going to run for president again in 2016.

The former Arkansas governor announced tonight on Fox News Channel the date of his big reveal. The town of Hope is a symbolic choice for Huckabee, who just happens to hail from the same place where Bill Clinton was born.

“I hope people will come to Hope, Arkansas, and not just to tour the Bill Clinton birthplace,” Huckabee said.

Earlier Friday, Huckabee told reporters that he would “make an announcement about my 2016 decision.” He also reminded reporters during an off-camera session that he filed papers to open an exploratory committee earlier this month.

He declined to criticize any of his potential Republican rivals, saying that should be the job of Democrats. He argued that he could build a broad coalition beyond social conservatives, including union workers and middle class voters disaffected by policies of the Obama administration.

He has been making calls to donors to make sure his campaign does not again go broke.

“I don’t want to jump in a pool that doesn’t have any water in it. It doesn’t make for a very pleasant swim,” Huckabee said.

He said a super PAC, which can accept and spend unlimited cash to help his candidacy, could help fill in those gaps.

“If it’s the law, we’re going to use it,” he said. “I don’t think anyone can be competitive if they don’t have a super PAC’s backing.”
