B.B. King thanks his fans for their prayers.
The 88-year-old blues legend confirmed Friday that he is receiving hospice care at his Las Vegas home. He has in recent months been suffering complications of the Type II diabetes he has battled for the past 20 years, his condition forcing him to call off the remainder of his performance schedule last October.
“Thanks to all for your well wishes and prayers,” read a message from King on his website.
His daughter Patty King told Vegas’ CBS 8 News that her father went to the hospital yesterday afternoon because he was dehydrated and wasn’t eating, and after doing blood tests doctors said that he may have had a minor heart attack. King was discharged later in the evening.
“Mr. King is where he wishes to be,” Laverne Toney, King’s longtime business manager, told reporters. “He’s always told me he doesn’t want to be in a hospital. He wants to be at home.” Toney said that King was treated for complications of diabetes and high blood pressure.
Police, meanwhile, said that an ambulance was called to the musician’s house Thursday afternoon following a domestic dispute over his medical care. TMZ had reported that Patty King was unhappy with her father’s condition and had previously occused Toney, who’s also said to be King’s power of attorney, of not taking proper care of him.
Las Vegas Police Officer Jesse Roybal confirmed to reporters that they are investigating a report that Patty filed on Nov. 16.
